
ABSTRACT
Nowadays, when all engines and equipment are sophiticated, complicated. It
requires lubricant oils have many special properties. One of them is capacity of
reducing friction and abriation for engine, equipment.
Friction Modify Additive is an additive that reduce friction of contact
surfaces by physical adsorption process, so that it decrease contact ability between
metal surface and increasing engine aging, engine power.
Materials making Friction Modify Additive in this subject are fat acid
( product of parafin oxidation process ) and amoniac gas.
Synthesis process have two operation
1. Amoniac gas flow scour throughout fat acid:

With optimal conditions:
- Reaction temperature from 30
o
C to 40
o
C.
- Scouring velocity of amoniac gas from 0.2 to 0.3 liter/minute .
- Scouring time of amoniac gas from 8 to 9 hour.
- Temperature of dismissing water process from 170
o
C to 180
o
C.
- Time of dismissing water process from 2.5 to 3.0 hour.
Product of this subject is tested phycio-chemical properties, infrared radial,
reducing abriation by friction with ASTM D 4172 and ASTM 2174, it seems that
the product equal import additive ( Sarkozyl ).
Finally, preparing engine lubricant CF4 15W-40 with Friction Modify
Additive that has created, it compare with the same level engine lubricant in the
market (engine lubricant of ExxonMobil). Result, two of them have the same ability
of reducing abriation, friction.
So that, additive has made that has the same physio-chemical properties with
Sarkozyl additive, it can be used as an additive for engine lubricants to replace
foreign import additives.
