An additional remark related to the preparation of my breakfast and the accompanying audio file is needed: a remark about the relationship between sound and place. What can sound studies contribute to our thinking about place? Of course, this is a huge and complicated question that deserves far more research and reflection than what I can offer here.3 However, I would like to present one, underdeveloped idea—namely how, through listening to a place, this place can be perceived not as a fixed context or a preexisting void in which something happens, but as an active and unstable agent, participating and constituted in the moment the action takes place.
