Hai cơ chế được giải thích: (1) thích ứng toàn cục, khi cấu trúc mạng điều chỉnh để khuếch đại ảnh hưởng của các thành viên có hiệu suất cao; (2) thích ứng cục bộ, khi những cá nhân chính xác hơn ít bị tác động bởi ảnh hưởng xã hội, nên ý kiến của họ được trọng số cao hơn trong kết quả chung. Kết quả nhấn mạnh vai trò của sự linh hoạt và cơ chế phản hồi trong việc nâng cao khả năng phán đoán của cả cá nhân lẫn tập thể.
